Dead ignition wire.

Dead ignition wire.
Just got through installing a new intake and carb. Nothing cut, frayed or pulled and now I have no voltage that ignition resistor wire. It is original and quite possibly corroded at the firewall or something stupid. I searched here to locate the wiring diagram and didn't see one. I need to know the color position at the switch so I can start tracing from there. Everything else is working perfectly but no power to the coil.

I believe its a pink wire, but I cant remember if it changed color or comes from the switch that way. just kind realized that was much ado about nothing but I know its pink at some point.
edit, here it is , leaves the switch as 16a then turns into 16 on the diagram. starts pink from ign switch and turns into red green.

Test my memory.
Maybe pink ish.
On the harness to the engine there's one wire for temp , one for oil pressure ,
and the ignition wire has two going into it .
one is the resistor wire the other is a full voltage wire for the starting position.
This is to the best of my memory on a '67 about 15 years ago .
I cut out the resistor wire,and wired in a standard ceramic ballast resistor and down the road I went.

Now see that is what I was thinking anyway. I have to bring a switched 12v into the engine bay to power the electric choke anyway. I was thinking of just bringing in a 10g and splitting it to two 12g wires, one for a ballast resistor on the firewall and the other for the choke.cep62 wrote:Test my memory.

Which ballast resistor is most commonly used? Napa has a few in stock. The simple 5.00 ceramic resistor will probably be fine I guess.

For the electric choke I think there is a terminal on the alternator to power it.
That way the choke only gets power when the engine is running.

I'll look at my alternator on the truck. Not sure it's a stock unit but I'll check it out. Put a meter on the ignition switch and red/green is a good 12v source. The resistor wire is surely the issue. I'll fix it tomorrow.

Check and see if you have the carb throttle solenoid wire connector. Mine was orange and laying along the driver's side of the intake, running alongside the valve cover. I believe it was orange with a female bullet connector. I looked at it for years. Every time I would look under the hood I would see that wire laying there and ask myself what it was. Then I decided to install an electric choke on my carb and said "I wonder....". Sure enough, it was hot with the key on, switched 12v. Made a jumper with a male bullet on one end and a female spade on the other and used it to run my electric choke. Found out late what it was for.

3.99 ballast resistor, done. Got it and the choke wired today in the snow.
