Battery Cables are Dry Rotted

Post by Subzero »

On my 72 F100 both my batter cables are dry rotted and about 1/3 of the coating on the negative has come off and maybe 1/6 of the positive has. Is this a fire hazard with them like this? Where can I find good replacements that will fit? Looking for some cheap ones as my engine is knocking and that's taking priority right now, but it would be nice to have them done when it's back on the road.

Just wrap the pos one with electrical tape for now .
Any "good " parts store has them available by gauge and length.
Buy heavier than stock ,it'll help with hot starts.

I'll have a look around and see what I can find. I bet a number of different ones will fit for Ford trucks as everything is in the same place from about 1967-1995.
