1968 f100 Gauges

Post by 68rookie »

My gauges have never worked properly in fact the temp and oil pressure gauges always shoot clear over to the right. Fuel gauge I think might work now since I put a new float on sending unit. Anyway from reading on here odds were pretty good I needed and IPVR. So I pulled my cluster for the first time and noticed there was no IPVR, the wired that should have gone to the IPVR were connected together??? So I ordered one from Dennis Carpenter and installed it. Piece of paper that comes with it says make sure the IPVR is grounded or gauges will read incorrectly and IPVR will get hot. So, I install it, Temp and Oil Pressure gauges don't move and the IPVR got HOT!! I've installed a new oil sending unit prior to this because I had a different we of gauges under the dash which took a different sending unit. I would really like to get the factory gauges working if possible. Question....if the wires that were supposed to be connected to the IPVR were connected together all this time, would that have fried the gauges? Also, why is the IPVR getting hot?
My goal in life is to be as good a person as my dog already thinks I am!
