Fried ignition switch wire

Post by EDVSU »

:help: finished my cv swap on my truck and ran across and ignition switch wire toasting up on me. Completely fried to a crisp. Any one with any help as to what it's for I'd much appreciate it! :?

It's a violet looking wire !? Comes from harness out into ignition switch.
Truck still turns on after the fact. But in worried about what that wire is for ?!

I'm not exactly sure of it's exact function but according to this diagram, http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... _quick.jpg it taps into the blue wire for the optional carb solenoid and runs to the voltage regulator, instrument cluster and brake warning light. I'd say it's part of the voltage sensing circuit for brake warning, A/C, accessories, etc, that draw additional current and signal the driver of error conditions. The only one of any real concern is the low brake pressure warning light.

 maybe that's why my wire got current now and fried it to a crisp. The wire was exposed a bit and must of caught a part of the back of the dash where the switch plugs in.
My brake light hasn't came on. But I'm sure it would of tripped it on now with the addition of new disk brakes.
I'm still on the old drum/drum master cylinder for the brakes. Thanks a bunch sargenters for the awesome link bro. looks like after I get my brakes set up correctly with a disk/drum master cylinder & new pro portioning valve. I'll have to look into a wiring harness upgrade.

That second wire that's broken on my brake light warning switch seems to look like the same wire that fried by my ignition switch. :hmm:

Could be. Violet and blue are joined together at the switch. Blue joins with the red/yellow at the splice from the carb solenoid, then red/yellow goes to the cluster then to the low brake warning indicator light. Violet supplies power to the circuit, red/yellow provides power to the warning light.
