no power at key
I recently.purchased a 1 owner 1971 F250 camper special 360/4spd which I have driven about 100 miles in the last week or so. The last few days it started giving me problems re-starting after being driven. Decided it wasn't the starter getting hot after it did it when I simply turned it around in the driveway. I replaced the negative battery cable and cable from solenoid to starter as the were very brittle and it still did it. Would just click. Today I replaced the positive cable and solenoid but now have no power at all when key is turned on. The yellow wire has a 2nd spliced into it at the ignition connection that led to an extra battery on the driver's side. I have removed that battery and now disconnected the extra wire from the 2nd solenoid. Any help is greatly appreciated as I am just getting back into working on thebolder vehicles. Thanks

Re: no power at key
First, check the ground wire from the back of the intake to the firewall and make sure it's sound and tight. Let us know before moving forward with ALL of the possibilities.
If that doesn't work, I suspect you may need to start at the battery and begin the process of elimination.

I hate cleaning up the messes left by PO's. First you need to see what's right and what's wrong. Here's a couple of diagrams that might help. This for a '69 but the wiring is the same as the '71. http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... arging.jpg and this schematic is for a '72 but it's also the same for '71. http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... _quick.jpg and if you really want detail, here's the full master diagram http://www.fordification.com/tech/wiring_1972master.htm See if you can put things back where they should be and then see if it's still a problem. As a side note, don't rule out your "new" solenoid. They are notorious for being bad right out of the box.

Believe it or not it was the battery. Not sure what happened to it but it only showed about 7 volts when we tested it. I replaced it and it seems to be working just fine, even with the old solenoid back in. Thanks for the help though.
