I went ahead and ordered a Remaufactured one, they had the Cardone ones on amazon for $114. It should be here in about a week. Cross my fingures.

Hi WindhamDW, did you get your Cardone power steering gearbox yet? $114 sounds like a really good deal and I'm sure that others on the forums would love to know your results. For comparision, a Redhead rebuilt unit is $266, plus an extra $100 if you don't have a core for them to rebuild.

Thanks,

The place I ordered it from didn't have them anymore so I found another place that had the the same thing for $240 with no core and free shipping.

I looked at the redhead but the final price was almost 400 once I was done and I'm on a tight budget trying to get everything working right.

I hope everything works right, going to try and put everything in the weekend if the new hoses show up.

Thanks

I finally got it all in, I replaced the steering box and the pump, there is no sloop and fills a lot tighter now.

I got the steering box from pure.speed

The problem I have now is the steering wheel will not return to center when going around a curve or turning, will a front end alignment fix that or what will cause that anyone know?

Thanks

That's great news and thanks for letting us know the result. It sounds like you need an alignment now.

Out of interest, do you have more details about the place you got the steering box? What is pure.speed?

Thanks

I was just on Rockauto.com. The will rebuild your box for about the same price but you have to ship them yours and wait for return. Mine is leaking some fluid so I was checking prices. When I start my truck the wheel turns right all by itself.

I got mine from O'Reilly's over a year ago (about $142.00). I've had no problems with it and it doesn't leak.

O'rielys shows that they carry it. When I went to get one they say that they can no longer get it. Napa you have to send your box off and they will rebuild it if possible. I have been looking for a cheap replacement box because mine leaks. But for the cost of some of these I have been considering the crown vic swap.... that opens up a whole other can of worms.

I am doing a complete restoration on a 1970 F100.
I am confused on replacing the steering box.
Many brands, many places, NAPA, O’Reilly’s, many prices $150-350.
Any advice?

Redhead Steering carries gears for our trucks. Some are reasonable, some are pricey, depending on the application.
