Factory Air

Post by 68rookie »

My truck came with original factory air and is currently not working. Before I go to the trouble of getting it up and running was just curious to know from those of you that have it, is it any good? Does it do a good job, do you need a special radiator etc??????
My goal in life is to be as good a person as my dog already thinks I am!

Contact Classic Auto Air, I have been in contact with a guy named Ron Mineo there. He will help you get your factory air going. Todd

Most parts are still obtainable, but the heater core is a tough find...I got mine going but hasn't been hot enough to tell how well a/c works.

They work pretty good in a truck. But with only 2 vents in the center of the dash, don't expect miracles. I also have a factory under dash unit in my '64 Fairlane. It won't freeze you out but will make the heat tolerable. While modern A/C systems, with several vents, will cool the whole interior of a vehicle, the old under dash units were more designed to direct the air directly on the driver and passengers with the vents instead of trying to make the whole interior cool. While driving my Fairlane, my right side stays nice and cool but my left side, with the sun streaming in through the window, is still pretty warm  You might get away with using your original radiator if it's in good condition but I would definitely add a fan shroud if you don't already have one.
