Hello, Looking for help,
I have a 72 ford that I put a 79 400 in with a Duraspark ignition I have found that I can wire in the red wire from the 2 wire plug on the ignition box to the Batt wire going to the coil. The wire I am not sure about is the white wire. I think I can tie it in to the red/blue wire that goes to the ignition switch.
Any help would be appreciated.

You'll get better answers soon or google for them but if memory serves the DS has an normal ignition run ckt and a start only ckt. Folks would wire the start ckt to the ignition and then burn the boxes out after a couple minutes of running. I haven't messed with a DS since the 90's so do some research before smoking the unit.

Re: Wire a duraspark
maybe not the best way, but been working for years.
get the harness from a donor vehicle. the one that conects the box, dizzy and coil all to one another.
thatll leave you with 2 connections to the truck. not a big deal to make your own but you get the conectors that way. makes it easy to replace parts
coil hot. use your existing wire. it has a resistor built in. points trucks and duraspark trucks had the same resistance valus.
the hot all the time wire to the box.i ran a wire over to the "I" terminal of the starter relay (solenoid)
i didnt hook up the hot while cranking.

Re: Wire a duraspark
I have everything from my 78 donor truck. I checked the voltages of the coil with the truck off but in the run position on the key and get about 12.5 volts and with the key turning the engine over it drop's to 10 volts. I also did the 3G swap at the same time. The wiring under the dash looks perfect no cuts or splices. I am still not 100% sure where to install the red and white wires from the duraspark. I think they go to the ignition switch but not sure of which wire goes where.meteor545 wrote:maybe not the best way, but been working for years.

I looked at the diagram you linked and it helps but I don't know where the red and white wires tie into the ignition switch. Do you know the color of the wire the red wire goes to and the same for the white.
Thanks a bunch Pat.
