Aftermarket wiring harness
Are the aftermarket wiring harness any good? Someone has messed with my headlight wiring and my tss wiring in my 67 f100 and it is a mess. My headlights work and parking lights work but no turn signals or brake lights. I am thinking about just updating the whole wiring in the truck that way I'll have blade fuses as well. Any info on harness to chexk out or links would be great. Was it hard to do yourself if u wired the truck up? Thanks

Re: Aftermarket wiring harness
I bought the EZ Wiring 21 circuit kit from a member here for a very good price. http://www.ezwiring.com/store/viewitem.php?productid=4 Haven't actually installed it but it appears to be high quality. Only drawback that I can see is it's a "universal" kit so I won't be able to use my original switches without splicing in the old connectors. Since I'm using aftermarket gauges and ignition components, I don't see it as much of a big deal. Every wire is clearly labeled along the length of the harness. I'm by no means an expert at electrical but I feel good about being able to install it myself.

Ok great. Thank you for the link! In the pic it looks like it supplies headlight plugs...is that correct? Also is it a universal kit that uses ford wiring codes or just go by the labels on the wires? Thanks!

Re: Aftermarket wiring harness
Can't beat it for the price. Every wire has it's purpose printed on it about every 1-2 ft. Like, "Rear Left Turn Signal" or "Front Right Parking Light" or "Coil Positive" or "Horn Relay". It contains some pigtails, some Chebbie connectors, some generic connectors, a few butt connectors, ring terminals, etc. The terminals are not near enough for everywhere they'll be needed so I'll be buying more uninsulated terminals for solder and shrink tube connections. My plan of attack is to mock it up in the truck, gather all the connectors, and then zip tie in groups and "runs" before actual installation. Then I'll install it in the truck for verification of my "plan". Before terminating the ends I'll loom all the sections and runs in protective sheathing.

Awsome. I think I am going to order this then and go about it the same way. Be nice to have updated wiring in the truck anyways. Yea $190 for a brand new harness is Def nice. Looking forward to having it all working. Hopefully it will work with factory gauges ok...it should I would assume. Thanks for all the help!!

Re: Aftermarket wiring harness
You'll just have to tap into the gauge harness plug with the right wires and it should would fine. Good luck and keep us updated. I'll be following your installation. Thanks!bad67f100 wrote:Hopefully it will work with factory gauges ok...it should I would assume.

Re: Aftermarket wiring harness
Twice as hard to "graft" into your existing harness, (which you'll have to do with any aftermarket harness on the market IMO.
Do yourself a favor and study the wiring schematic here for hours if not days / then buy the laminated harness here that applies to your model and year of truck: http://stores.ebay.com/ClassicCarWiring ... 7675.l2563 /
then get real...friendly with a voltage meter (which everyone here with our trucks should be anyway as most repair shop mechanics nowadays couldn't define a shunt if they had to-much less chase down wiring issues on our old trucks.
Good luck with the painful, (I mean painless) that I've seen so...many guys here buy and never install once they see how hard it is to accomplish.

Re: Aftermarket wiring harness
How, or what are y'all planning to cover the wires with running to the back, and through the engine compartment? This sounds like an easy enough question, but just wondering if anybody has some cool ideas, other than the split ribbed deal I've found at some part stores.

I bought this stuff to use for my Fairlane https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-890340 Nylon braided, comes in 1/4" - 2" diameter. Looks good and easy to use. Split and curls back onto itself. Really cleaned up my engine compartment.

Here's a photo of where I sleeved my ignition wiring and tied it to a brace on the Fairlane.
