headlight assembly

Post by lloyd70cs »

Hi there,

I just got replacement headlight assembly and i think i got every part needed and i've looked at the shop manual diagram (which is a foreign language to me) and am not getting it. :? All i got when i bought the truck was the headlight and the ring and the bezel. Anybody have a photo of what their headlight assembly looks like behind the bezel? Thanks

Should be the bucket the lamps sits in, and the adjusting mechanisms with retaining spring. The adjusting screws usually rust and the plastic bits for the bezel are available on the aftermarket.

Are you working on a 70? Your signature says so. Anyway, under your bezel are the light buckets. Make sure they are D0TZ-????? you don't want the buckets that are C9TZ-???? or C7TZ or visa versa. On the bucket is a retaining ring. Some rings are made to come off just by loosening the three screws and turning in the proper direction. Other retaining rings are made with small tabs that need the screw removed. I'm sure you can tell the difference when you see it.
The buckets are held down with two headlight adjustment assemblies and a spring.
The reason for different headlight buckets are this; If a 67-69 bucket is used on a 70-72 your headlight will be a quarter turn off. Meaning your headlight will NOT be straight up and down. This is also true if using the 70-72 buckets on a 67-69.
The buckets look identical until you look at the three notches where your bulb fits in. You want your bulb straight up and down for proper alignment.

Last summer I run into just the situation you explained . I purchased a new pair from DC and they were saying that the pair will fit 67 thru 72. (not so) The drivers side would not clock right and the passenger side fit like a charm. Ended up finding a used set just to get the drivers side so it would fit .
