Fuel Gauge

Post by Southern Boy »

Okay so I've put in a new fuel sending unit from LMC and my gauge now reads 3/4 full. I just put the tank back in the truck after cleaning it and put 2 gallons in it. I've read the voltage at the sending unit and it spikes up to 2.3v at the most and 0v at the lowest. I've read posts about adjusting the voltage regulator on the back of the instrument cluster but everyone posting seemed to have a full tank and reading 3/4 full. My tank is basically empty (2 gallons) and it reads 3/4 full.

What do you guys suggest I do first.

Thanks in advance.

The voltage should pulse to 5 volts (that can be adjusted) but that doesn't explain why it shows 3/4 when the tank only has 2 gallons. Somehow you're getting current to the gauge when you shouldn't. You may have it wired in a way that is bypassing the sending unit. If you can't find anything wrong, you can check your sending unit by taking it out and connecting an analog multi-meter to it. As you move the float it should move the needle on the multi-meter to simulate the gas gauge. A digital meter may work but I don't have one so I've never tried that.
