Brake light issues

Post by Bumpside_nation »

I put a whole new wiring harness in my 70 f100 (what a pain in my rear) and i am having an issue. brake lights will not work. the turn signals, reverse lights, and hazards all work but not the brake lights. the brake light switch behind the brake pedal is getting power and the fuse is not blown. i am not sure what it could be, if anyone has any suggestions id appreciate it.

Time to start backtracking. If you have power in and out of your brake light switch, start at the brake light bulb and work your way backwards. It's the ground that triggers the circuit. The tail lights ground through the bulb socket to the housing to the screws into the bed. Inspect the inside of your bulb socket carefully. I had one where the small dimples that lock the bulb in were the only thing corroded, preventing the bulb from grounding. A little steel wool on the tip of a small screwdriver solved the problem.
