When trying to overcome PO electrical sins, it's always a good idea to verify your wiring to see that the colors/connections are original and not "improvised". I typically like to unwrap the tape at multiple wire junctions to verify the the wires coming out of the junction are the same wires that went into the junctions. Here's a couple of invaluable diagrams. http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... arging.jpg and http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... rging2.jpg I chose the '69 diagrams as a middle ground for an example. The circuits involved are fairly dedicated and provided the PO has not bypassed the stock connectors, it's fairly easy to troubleshoot with a test light and voltmeter. It's always helpful to include year and model in your questions (put it in your signature is a useful way). Here's a thread from another member with a similar problem that might help. Take a look at it, it'll save me from retyping a bunch http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 0&start=15

The black wire (#38) should be coming from the (B)attery terminal of your alternator to the side post of the solenoid nearest the battery.sacramento_ford wrote:theres a single thicker wire that goes from voltage reglator, its black and thicker, does that go to positive, ?
