Pertronix unit does not break the circuit, it remains closed while turning over, ordering a new unit now1972hiboy wrote:hmm, the pertonix is just a breaker switch. if you unhook the leads off the coil and hook them up to your multimeter set to check continuity, you should be able to crank the engine and see that switch breaking continuity on the meter. or if your in doubt they are inexpensive enough just throw a new one in and retest.

Re: No Spark and a backwards distributor..wat?
have not taken any action on the problem but i did get a chance to speak to a Pertronix tech.
He said that disconnecting the + and- from the ignitor II unit and testing continuity was not a valid test and that a test light across the negative terminal on the coil connected to the negative of the battery was the test to perform. Is this because when the circuit is broken the voltage jump occurs on that side? Or than it can be sensed there?
I dont think its neccessary for me to go back to points as this system was working for so long and even last weekend. Im learning a ton through this though, been a spoiled new car owner for so long i've forgot my basic automotive principles.

kinda sounds like a differnet way to check the same thing, but if that what pert. told you id test it that way.

SO this vid helped me understand a bit
https://youtu.be/mDKj19Hnhd0
then i made my own, think this shows a no spark condition? i think so...
https://youtu.be/jKRRofcnrws
currently on hold waiting to speak to pertronix about the test and which kit to order based on my distributor numbers: 11T(indistinguishable number) 12127 EA AUTOLITE
ANy info on that distributor? looked up the numbers but nothing conclusive.

Re: No Spark and a backwards distributor..wat?
its the 1281 for the standard pertronix or the 91281 for the igniter ll. works for most all ford v-8s
