68 ranger cargo light swith removal tips

Post by 66f250cs »

I found a cargo lamp and switch in a 68 ranger. I am contemplating getting it. I have several questions;
How does the black/red center knob come off the shaft? Looks like once the knob is removed I can unscrew the bezel and slide assy inward and downward for unplugging the wires. Is that true?
My 69 explorer does not have a hole in dash face for installation. Can I use the cigar lighter hole or do I need to drill an new one?
What else do I need to get this thing to work? I will be removing the lamp assy above the bed as well. I assume there are a couple of wires that snake across the headliner that connects to the cargo light switch. Is this correct? What is the going price for the switch, lamp and black/red center knob? Thanks.

The knob simply unscrews from the shaft by turning CCW. Then you will see a nut that holds the switch to the dash. One other option for mounting in your truck is to source (ebay) the auxillary switch mounting used for dual gas tanks that mounts under the dash. This would keep you from drilling your dash.

When you pull the light, dont' forget to get the harness that goes from the light to the wiring harness under your dash.
