This is my first post here, so here it goes...
I'm restoring a 1970 f100. One of my many plans with this truck is to get it registered so I can drive it legally. The truck currently has no dash.
I was wondering if anyone knows which gauges I need to have in working order in order to pass a TX inspection so I can register the truck. I'm assuming I need a speedometer, and fuel gauge, but I'm not sure how many more I may need.
I am planning on ordering after market gauges for this and will certainly add more gauges later, but I just want to get this truck street legal so I can drive it to a shop for specific work.

Re: Gauges Needed TX Inspection
You may want to just call the inspection station and ask what need to b on the truck and in working order.
In addition to what u r thinking, I would think a temp, oil, and amp.

This is it All you need on the dash board is the high beam indicator. They don't care if you know how fast your going, but you better know if you have your high beams on1972hiboy wrote:https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/vi/in ... teria.aspx

Re: Gauges Needed TX Inspection
Thanks for the guidance. I contacted an inspection station. I need a speedometer, odometer, turn signal indicators, high beam indicators, and parking brake indicator. It's wiring time...

I'm fairly certain these trucks didn't come with a parking brake indicator.

Re: Gauges Needed TX Inspection
Get a second opinion. I had one refuse to inspect my truck because it didn't have the exhaust exiting from under the bed, showed him in the manual the exemption for original equipment and he still wouldn't do it. Went to another and no problem. Hope he doesn't get any 30's 40's cars without turn signals and only one brake light.

Re: Gauges Needed TX Inspection
They do have a high beam light! It is very dim and red right behind the speedo. I spent 3 hours getting it working last time i had my truck inspected and the inspector didn't even check.
I've heard both things about the speedometer, that list doesn't say anything about it. I've never brought in a car that didn't have one, but it looks like they can't flag you for that.
"I need a speedometer, odometer, turn signal indicators, high beam indicators, and parking brake indicator"
i think that is B.S. and i'd call around for another inspection station. they don't say anything on the website about all that except the high beam indicator. which is dumb, but... whatever.
parking brake indicator?!? if they ask you that just say "when you see that pedal looking thing near the ground, it is an indication to the operator that the parking brake is engaged"
if they flag you for things that aren't on the list, call TXDOT and report them for fraud.
