mystery A/C unit
I have a 71 Ranger XLT, I have what seems to be a factory A/C but can not find any pictures of one or parts for it. Unfortunately my wife is out of town and has our camera but I will try to describe it. It has the wood grain trim just like the interior of the truck. It also has a small glove box built into the bottom of it on the passenger side. On the bottom side directly above the trans tunnel their is a slide that says A/C - Def on one end and Heat on the other. It does have the factory controls that I have seen pictures of. Any help is appreciated. Thank You. Found a FoMoCo part # C7TA-8101024-A

Re: mystery A/C unit
That is it to a T. Thank you very much. Do you know where I can find parts for it. the bushing for the blend door is gone and every time you got from heat to A/C you hove to reach to the back and manually wiggle and move the blend door. And I need and new glove box door, the hinge is just plastic, which is surprising considering everything else is make of steel, but the hinge is half broken and prob does not have much life left. Thanks Again.

That is the true factory a/c evaporator box. dennis carpenter may have some odds and ends for them but I think parts are in general hard to find for these units. you might have to scrounge for a take out and rob parts off of it.

Is that a rare item, I know not a lot of these trucks came with factory air. their were a lot of dealer add on systems, but not a lot of factory ones.

Re: mystery A/C unit
If there is anything left of the bushing, you can get it duplicated at a machine shop (or a friend with a lathe, etc) whether it is (was?) metal or plastic.
Or, you might try to measure the OD, ID, length, etc and find a replacement in various places.
As far as the glovebox door, I'm thinking you would be very lucky to find a NOS replacement but you might find a used one. Problem is, that plastic deteriorates with time and most of the used ones that are available will likely have issues as well. On the other hand, if the door is OK, why not try to fab up a replacement for the hinge(s)?

Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in garages. (Apologies to Kenneth Grahame.)

The hinge is made onto the door and can only be replaced with the door.

Re: mystery A/C unit
Unfortunately, to my knowledge, nobody makes any replacement parts for the case and very little specifically for the unit in general. You'll probably have to find a used unit you can gut the internals and use the case. Otherwise, you'll have to improvise or make your own. Might try to post in the Parts Wanted section or keep surfing Ebay till one pops up.
