not starting

im having problems starting my 70' f250, it wants to start but as soon as I turn the key from the strting position to the on position it dies

That's usually the sign of a faulty ignition switch.

Or the resistor wire , check for power to the coil with the key on.

Power is going to the coil when key is on but not when key is in starting postsion

I know it sounds odd, but on the starter solenoid there are two small wires that connect to small posts. The brown wire on the one to the fire wall side of it is a booster wire to the coil when starting. I had a solenoid go out on me and it would short through that wire and caused the truck to not run once the key left the starting position. If you will take that wire off the solenoid and the truck will start and run. Well you need a new solenoid, if not you have to keep looking but its one of those things you can check that doesn't cost anything but time. :)
