Under hood engine compartment lamp staying on.
So, 3 times this month, I have noticed that my engine compartment lamp is not shutting off after fully closing the hood. One time it even drained the battery after staying on all night. Sometimes, I am able to swing the hood back and forth to get it to shut off, but the problem appears to be worsening. Is there any easy fix or a replacement part for this old unit?

I was told they have a mercury switch in them. They have to sit at the correct angle to work. On or off. You could try adjusting it. A replacement would have to come from a newer truck i would think.

Yep...they are controlled by a mercury switch usually mounted on the top of the light. I don't think there is any adjustment to them. If you can find a replacement do Mine worked for years and now it wont come on. You may have to replace the whole light.

Hated to do it, but for now, I just removed the light bulb so it doesn't drain the battery when it the issue acts up. I'll be keeping an eye out for a replacement.
