new wire kit

Hey Y'all i have a 65 f100 swb with a 390 c6 disc brakes.lm looking to rewire my truck because of all the cut and splicing . So i've been looking at 2 kits . One is a ez wire 12 mini and a rebel 9+3 kit just like some info on what y'all think and what y'all are using thanks

I bought the EZ Wiring 21 circuit kit for my truck. It's not Ford specific and, in fact, comes with GM connectors but I intend to splice in my Ford connectors where needed. I'll be going heavily restomod with aftermarket gauges and such so it's no big deal. I haven't installed it yet but the kit itself is very well made with all wiring clearly labeled. A few other members have used them and I haven't seen any negative comments regarding it.

I'm in the process of installing an EZ-21. I can tell you the fuse block seems like it's one part of a two part system, like there should be a base that it mounts to or something. Other than that I am happy with it. The instructions are, well, a general guide at best. For instance it says in the instructions that your door switches provide ground for the dome light, which is incorrect for our purpose. For the price I don't mind doing all the splice work to add my original Ford connectors. Another thing you want to be aware of is that the EZ (and some other) kits are basic universal. You don't get specific things like the wiring that goes between your heater controls and the blower, or the wiring between the wiper switch and wiper motor/washer pump. All you get is a fused power wire for that system. So it's up to you to properly adapt and use as much extra factory harness, or be prepared to add where needed. One thing I am building new is door switch wiring for the dome light. Mine was trash at best. Also, these basic low cost kits have no grounds. So you will want to have plenty of black wire and ring terminals on hand. Something I decided to do is run dedicated grounds for all these different systems. If it originally grounded to the body or was a chassis ground system (like dome light, heater control light etc) then it gets a dedicated ground wire back to a terminal strip under the dash. Good bye funky light grounds and hello brighter lights! Another dedicated terminal strip I'm adding is for dash lighting. All the EZ kit has is a short wire from the light switch. To which you need to connect several dimable dash lights (gauge lights, cigar lighter light, heater control light, radio dimmer). So that gets a dedicated terminal strip.

My vote is for the basic kits if you are electrically handy. Either EZ or Rebel will do just fine. If you plan it out and have a good understanding of how things work, you will be just fine. If you're not handy with wiring diagrams you will want to pony up more cash for the full preterminated with proper plugs kits like Painless or American Autowire.

Plus we are here to help you through the dark times when your dash looks like it puked spaghetti and you wonder why in the world you thought you were man enough to tackle that beast of a project!

Randy, quick tip. If you want to retain the factory dimmer switch plug you can simply swap the bare ford plug over. Just remove the GM style plug. No splicing, the spade terminals pop right in.
