Well lately my truck has been having starting problems. Sometimes it will crank when I turn the key and sometimes it won't. So I thought that maybe it was the starter solenoid and replaced it. And it still continues to do the same thing even with the new solenoid. I also noticed the accessories stay on sometimes with the key in off position. I'm thinking its the ignition switch that is bad...what do you guys think it could be?
bad ignition switch?

Re: bad ignition switch?
It could be that or the switch that locks out the starter if it's not in park or neutral. I've got an automatic, so I don't know, is there also a starter cutout for the clutch being out? A couple of additional things to think about.
Cheers,
Duane

Re: bad ignition switch?
Ok so I remembered that I had bought the switch 2 yrs ago, so I went online and what do ya know...it has lifetime warranty at AutoZone. So I went and the guy looked up the cylinder lock only and it said 1 yr warranty. And I told him no, that's just the cylinder lock this is the whole switch. So he looked up the entire igntion switch and there it said lifetime warranty . So he had no other choice but to exchange the switch and I just transferred the cylinder lock to the new switch. When I got home I re-installed it and I was getting the same results. After tinkering with the wires for a while I saw with my test light that I had power at the starter solenoid but no start. So I ran a ground wire from the battery neg. to the starter solenoid mounting bracket and go turn the key and wow it starts the engine! So I guess there wasnt a good ground on the starter solenoid and as a result it caused my electric fan relay to overheat and melt together inside resulting in my electric fan running in off position.

Re: bad ignition switch?
Yep. Bad ground = increased resistance = heat.
Of course, if the ground is bad enough (like doesn't exist), there won't be any heat at all because no current will flow!
May all your circuits be complete . . .

Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in garages. (Apologies to Kenneth Grahame.)

Duaneo - No starter lockout on clutch.
Way back when, my father, his co-worker and I went to a basketball game at Foster Auditorium. It was cold, dark, etc and none of us wanted to walk. But, parking seemed to be nonexistent.
Ah, 'seemed' - Leave it to a couple of firemen to work it out - A UA flatbed truck was parked up on the curb with nothing in front of it. Dad hopped in and moved it 25 feet forward using just the starter button/pedal. Instant parking spot!
At 6 years of age, that was my introduction to "keyless" driving.
Ah, the good, old days!
That might have been the night George Linn made an 85 footer right in front of us just as the first half ended. They put a brass "X" in the floor to mark the spot. The floor has since been replaced but the "X" remains. Ten years later we played in the state championship tournament on that same floor. The good, old days indeed!
