Custom Dash Speakers
Just curious... Of all of you who have added custom sounds to your bump sides, how many have skipped the factory speaker placement, and added your own on either side of the dash? my new '69 project is proving to be a complete PITA, bit is totally going to be worth it... I'm doing my best with limited resources to upgrade the majority of the interior to that of a '97 F-series, aside from the seat, which is actually out of a 2009 Ram. My plan is to put a set of 4x6s in the dash, but not quite sure where to start. So figured I'd ask here and see if anyone else has already come up with anything. Have fun and happy truckin!

Re: Custom Dash Speakers
I did not use my stock speaker location and have no desire to cut the metal in my cab to mount speakers anywhere else. I also installed an after market heat and AC system which really limited where I could put speakers. My solution was to search for a pre-made speaker box that I could place in my truck and I found one that fits right on the transmission hump under the dash. It is made for a Jeep, but it fits our trucks perfectly.
Here is a picture of what I bought:
I ran the speaker wires behind my firewall cover and they plug right into the back of the unit. Velcro holds it to the carpet.
And here is where I bought it... Cheapest place I found and with the 15% off coupon, it was $130 shipped.

Just an option if you dont mind your speakers in plain sight. But no cutting involved...

Re: Custom Dash Speakers
Good thread from awhile back with a lot of options. https://fordification.com/forum/viewtop ... &view=next or you could put one of these in the original dash location http://www.classicautopartsonlinecatalo ... fpu&from=2 (page 208).

Re: Custom Dash Speakers
Here's what I'm considering. The small ones can be visible and look just like vents. There also small enough that you can mount them up underneath the dash for that hidden look. If I go this route, the small ones will be secured underneath the dash, out of sight. The base will fit perfectly under the seat.

Re: Custom Dash Speakers
If I could ever figure out how to post pictures, I'd show what I ended up doing.
I took a set of 6x8's and mounted them under dash.
Measured to where evenly spaced, I carefully cut the crispy vinyl and inlaid custom shaped grilles, cut and formed out of old 6x9 grilles I found in junk yard (not too easy of a find really). Multiple coats to get as flush as possible, I used a clear caulking to both hold the grilles in place, and act as a bondo to smooth the finish. Then I used just an industrial black gloss paint to help hide it better.
Using a 1/2" bit, I drilled holes, 1/4" apart, over the location of the speakers through the steel dash. Mounted the speakers using sprinkler washers as spacers to angle them slightly with 3/32" x 1-3/4" pan head machine screws and pinched nuts. Place the dash pad back over, and voila! Hidden, with excellent sound results.
