I'm normally very handy...
A friend took this license lamp off the bump to change the bulb. I did not watch how he took it off. It is installed in one of the painted step bumpers. Strange thing is now O can;t figure out how to get it back on. Seems very basic but the stop number holes are not threaded. The front and back pieces of the lamp piece itself are threaded and so it seems like one would need to go behind and one in front of the step bumper face. Problem is that when I do that the front and back of the lamp piece don;t hold the glass lens tightly and it rattles, Clearly seems the two lamp pieces should be together in front of the step bumper face but then there is nothing to screw into the unthreaded holes of the bumper. ??????
Here is a pic of the lamp

The link goes to a Chevy truck light, so if that is correct, this may have been an improvised install. My advise for the reinstall would be to screw the 2 halves together from the front and use a couple of sheet metal nuts on the back side of the screws to attach the light to the bumper.

Wow...that is strange. I hadn't even noticed that. I typed in "1968 F100 nos license lamp" and that came up so I didn't even read the posting title. Even stranger...its the exact same lamp on my bump. So is this not original and, if not, what do the original ones look like? Thanks

Here's a picture from a catalog, but.... Since these trucks were sold in the days when the rear bumper was an option, it was kinda up to the dealership as to what was put on the truck. (Who remembers the bumpers with the dealer's name and city stamped into them?)

I went with the Dorman also. They just push in and are held in place by tension. Easy to put in and take out.

The picture I posted wasn't the best, but the link above actually appears to be very similar in design and appearance to the one I referenced. Price looks good on the Dorman, too. I'll remember it when I get there with mine.

Re: I'm normally very handy...
Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll continue to use the one I have since there are holes for the screws for the one I have. I'll just get some narrow bolts that will fit and reinstall this one. I'm still intrigues as to how it was originally installed without bolts but I'll let that go.

Re: I'm normally very handy...
What alphawave posted looks a lot like what's on the rear bumper of my bump. I had no less than 3 issues getting that license plate light to work. 1 - bulb burned out 2- corroded inline connector 3- bad ground. I had to sand the hole in the bumper to get that bugger to work. My bumper is what others have called a farm step bumper. IDK - not original, and it's been painted white. Seems solid enough and looks OK so I'll leave it alone for now.
**edit** maybe that bumper is "original" As in, originally installed at the dealership. Whoever bought this truck got every possible option and then some, like that Dana speedostat hang on cruise control.
