Headlight issues...

Post by Andre69f250 »

After redoing my electrical in the engine at because it was absolutely horrible, previous owners just rigged it up very poorly.

I can't get the headlights to work right.
Passenger side-only high beam works, low beam nothing, and turn spinal doesn't work.

Drivers side-high beam and low beam don't work, turn signal does.

Other than that all the rest of the electrical works.

Anybody have any idea where to start?

Thanks

First and foremost, check your grounds. When the grounds are not making good contact, they cause all sorts of random havoc with the lights. Make sure that the ground wires behind your turn signals are connected well as I have seen those affect the headlights as well.

If the grounds are OK . . .

I think I would double check the wiring diagram to make sure I had the proper function associated with the wires going to each light. In other words, what color wire is for each function?

Second, I would start with one function, low-beam, turn signal, etc and start tracing that particular wire back until I found the point where the voltage appeared. Then, it's just a matter of finding the fault between that point and the bulbs.

Whatever you do - Be deliberate and methodical.

Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in garages. (Apologies to Kenneth Grahame.)
