Emissions control/ambient temp sensor question

I'm currently doing a complete rewire of my 72 F100 Custom, and this is my first rewire project. The ambient temp sensor in the door jamb shorted on me and burnt every wire it touched (which is most of the harness wires), and that's what started this project in the first place. I am curious as to if anyone has bypassed or left off this sensor and accompanying em missions control pieces when redoing the electrical system of their pickup. Any information regarding this would be helpful. Thanks!
