Yea the western conference finals and the other series have delayed my ability to work on my truck in the evening as well. Go Kings. Still it's all looking good !

I was one of those bump owners in need and still have one of the ones you didn't want.

After we spoke on the phone I put the feelers out and picked up a DOT laminated rear window. I figure it's going to be close to the back of my head so better safe than sorry.

I know you have a lot of air space between you and the window so maybe you want to mount this one until you find your original. Let me know and I'll bring it by.

Well, now that hockey season is officially over and my LA Kings won the Stanley Cup , I was able to actually get back to work on my truck for a few hours here and there.

First off, my daughter decided to go to the beach yesterday and pulled her surfboard out of the corner of the garage. When I went into the garage yesterday afternoon, I happened to glance into that corner and guess what I happened to see there that had been behind her surfboard??



Yep... My back window. I knew I wouldn't have given this one away and I tore up my whole garage and house looking for this thing. You know the one thing in that garage I didn't move? Yeah... Her surfboard. Once I found it, I vaguely remember putting it there for safekeeping when I was rearranging the garage last year. I completely forgot that I put it there.

Anyway, now that that mystery was solved, I was putting my glass back in my doors and decided that with a new paint job on my truck, my wing windows just did not look up to par. There were some scratches and fading in the black painted parts, so I disassembled the windows, taped everything off, and gave them a fresh coat of rattle can gloss black. Not perfect, but way better than they were. Not sure the before and after pictures do them justice. In person, the difference is night and day.

I also replaced my missing tailgate handle assembly with a decent one from a fellow member here. I forgot to take before pictures of it, but it had obviously been outside for the majority of its 40+ years and was covered in surface rust. The original aluminum color was not an option for this, nor did I want it silver, so gloss black it became. Here is the after picture of it. It should look good up against the dark green tailgate, and I will get a final picture of it installed when I get the tailgate assembled and put on the truck.

Are the wing windows a pain to get out of the doors? Always wondered

Not too bad without the anti-rattle kit installed. But getting them out with the rubber and/or fuzzies installed, you are going to ruin the anti-rattle kit taking them out. They are held in with 4 screws (3 in upper door jam area and 1 above door panel) and one allen-bolt (down low behind door panel). Once you have those out, you can actually maneuver it out without taking the main window or door innards out. You just need to have the window all the way down.

A couple of mini updates to go with the last "painting" update.... Got the rear tailgate all assembled and installed. Works better than it did before! I am also loving the way the black latch assembly is looking up against the dark green.



I also got all of the door glass installed along with the wing windows. They look a lot better now that they are painted. The new paint on the truck made the unpainted wing windows pop out as major eyesores.

I have been able to work on the truck for a few hours here and there. Today, I was able to button up the last door and now all 4 doors are complete except the panel trim and the front arm rests. There was a lot of work that went into each of these doors that isn't readily apparent, but I had to cut and modify each of the door panels to allow the caps to fit over the window crank gear. I also had to measure and mount each of the switch panels along with cut the panels behind the switch pods in order to run the wires and get everything wired up. Didn't seem like it was going to take as long as it did, but I wanted to make sure I did it right the first time and have everything exact.

One thing I didn't count on was the crew cab had the interior door trim. My front doors are from my 72 which did not have the trim. When I put the door panels on, there were no holes for the door trim in the front doors. So I needed to mark and drill all of the trim holes in the front doors. I was surprised that the holes were not there as I thought they may have been factory holes in all of the doors. Guess not!

Anyway, here are how the doors look with everything in place (except the trim and arm rests)

I went over the wiring for the door locks and windows about 10 times each and I have everything correct according to the wiring schematics. I hope that everything works the first time so I do not have to tear into these doors again. But with my luck, I will probably be into at least one of these doors several more times once I get the rest of the truck wired and put together... We shall see!

It looks like the wires are shrouded where they go into the kick panel. Does the kit come with any additional wire wrap to wrap the four looms together?
I'm just thinking that opening & closing the door over time will eventually cause wear.
Or, I may just be over-thinking it

Thanks! For the windows, I used the kit by Spal after doing some research. Good reviews and they use the existing hardware to operate so other than door panel modification for the switches and wiring, there is nothing else you need to take out or replace.. I bought the 4 window kit with switches since I have a crew, but standard cab folks can get by a lot cheaper.

It doesn't come with any extra wrap than is already on it, however, there isn't really that much movement of the wires when the door is opened and closed and the small amount of movement really does not cause much rubbing as the wires are pretty stationary. They wires are stationary where I have them running into the door as they are snug in that grommet. The only movement is minor in the wide open hinge hole in the cab. I may find something to wrap it further if I see the need, but right now, I think the current wrap is enough from what I have seen.
