I've got everything In the order of which I pulled them out.

Head.... 2.3 turbo SVO. No, I checked the deck when I put it on the new shortblock. This time filled with Crower rods and modified Diamond pistons.

You only replaced one head gasket? I've played with idea of boosting my 302 after I get the body and paint done.

Did it score the surface of the head or block? It kinda looked like it may have in the pic with the gasket in place on the head. Of course pics can be hard to see online....

Ditto, looks torch cut and it'll do it again if the gasket surfaces are eroded away. Mine used to look like goose eggs when the pushed out the side.

The rockers look a bit different and it's aluminum heads is why I ask.

Better check the block for scoring, too. As far as the rockers, I couldn't tell from the pictures if yours were bolts or studs.

Thanks chad, yeah I plan to resurface/mill the heads.

Been doing some research on a quality brand and type of gasket. I've found good things about felpro's composite head gaskets.

You need to check the block, too. If it torched the head, the block may be bad, too. I know this isn't what you want to hear, but if you put it together with the block bad, it will blow the gasket and torch the head again.

Ok so, took a scraper to the heads and the block. and most of what looked like scoring on the head came off; must of been mainly carbon build up. The blocks 'looks' fine. But time will tell I've only begun cleaning the surfaces. Wish me luck.
