Reverse Lights question

Post by BrockGrimes »

I have the connector under the hood seen here:
Image

It has the jumper wire.
Down on my steering column inside the truck is what I assume is the switch for reverse lights/neutral safety.
It has I believe 4 wires coming out of it that have been cut off with about 4" left. The truck will start in neutral, drive, etc.
I can't find a decent diagram as to what these went to and don't see anything obvious under the dash.
It's my understanding this switch's wiring on the column goes up to a connector but I don't see it.

What is my best option for fixing this and adding reverse lights? btw I have a C4 trans.

Also there is a main wire looks like it has an orange or tan coating looks like 4 to 5 wires inside and leads back along the driver side frame to the rear that has been cut off.
I'm guessing this was the original tail light wiring?

The jumper is for backup lights used for automatics. There should be a switch mounted on the side of the C4 that should handle Neutral and Backup light functions. It has 4 wires but I don't remember where the harness from it to the underdash harness runs.

Obviously it's not the stock setup.
I'm figuring from the trans to the cut up 4 wire switch on the column. Heard it could be run off the plug under the hood. But I'm no wiring guru

Ok I'm wrong, the switch isn't on the transmission. Shouldn't listen to and old man with a 3 speed f100. Maybe this will help. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =8&t=40504

That helps a lot.
I have the switch on the trans pictured in that thread.
The problem is they cut off those wires also.
I see 4 wire nubs i could solder new wires to.
The question is do i wire them to the switch down on the column? If so anyone have a diagram?

If you have the switch on the column It would be easier to hook it into the main harness. This shows the NSSS connections, but not the backup lights.

Go to the tech section there are a lot of schematics and wiring diagrams you can look through. Most of them show the standard transmission configuration with a jumper on the 4 pin connector under the dash. This is where all 4 wires of whichever switch you use needs to be connected.

So i have two options, column or trans.
Now i just gotta find the wiring under the dash where they go. Hopefully it hasn't been hacked off.
