Battery relocation

Hey Guys! back at it with the 72 SWB project. So I'm looking for ideas to relocate my battery. I was going to mount a dry cell in a seal box behind my seat. But yet to find a box that will fit. Thought about under the truck, but then it gets really dirty under there. Anyone out there have pictures or suggestions. Much appreciated. :fr:

I've never owned one but have read that the early Ford trucks had them under the floorboard. That might add a level or two to the jump starting degree of difficulty!

It might help a bit if you let us know why you want to relocate the battery.

If you go with something radical like a lithium battery, you could stash it in lots of places because it could be individual cells that lend themselves to odd-shaped configurations. But, Lithium cells might lead to charging issues.

I once wondered if anyone had relocated the battery to the bed to transfer the weight off the front to the back where it needs it. Maybe dual batteries in boxes, one on each side right in front of or in back of the wheels in the bed of the truck... Tricky part would be routing the cables under the truck... :?

I want inter fenders to have clean look and keep some weight off front. And I just wanted to always do it. :D

See BobbyFord's build thread. He has his battery relocated towards the back and I believe it is documented in his thread here somewhere. If I have time to look for it, I will link it.

Good point on routing the cables. Plus, from an electrical standpoint, the cables would need to be larger due to the increased length.

I might even consider adding some mechanical protection for the positive lead. You could have a long, very hot cable if it ever shorted to ground. Happened to me once when I was about 20 and wiring up an ammeter with no help. That was a smoke-filled, freight-filled few seconds. In my case, I could get to the battery posts without any problem. If the battery had been difficult to access, it could have meant the loss of the vehicle and the carport or even the entire house. Electricity is your friend . . . Until it isn't!

Thanks for the link to Bobby Ford's truck! I will add battery relocation to the "long list"... Maybe I can come up with something clever.

Yes thank you! I find a battery holder, almost like bolt down. I'm still thinking about mounting behind the seat. choices choices choices :thup:
