Weather strip install

Post by 70f10rat »

I was wondering how to install weather strip. There's a flange around the the door but what about the bottom? There's nothing to glue it too? It's just flat where the threshold plates go?

Gotta get this cab sealed up, heater doesn't do ne good with this leaky a$$ cab!

Thanks

Yep. The bottom just lays flat, then screw the sill plates over the top of it.

yep pull the sill plates, and you'll have to make some cuts in the part of the door seal that will lay flat (NOT the entire seal). 1 cut at the front of the sill and one cut at the back of the sill...both locations where it transitions from the flange to the flat. Then reinstall the sill plates. I used some new stainless screws, and I had to hammer the sill plate holes a little from the backside to close the holes up for the screw heads.

I also had to trim mine to length at the bottom, and I didn't leave a gap, so the seal is very very airtight to the point where the door has to be slammed to latch. This even after adjusting the latch and even after 6 months of the door squashing the seal. Wondering if I should trim a bit of a gap at the bottom?

If it is as tight as you say, I suppose it depends on how long you want the truck to float!

Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in garages. (Apologies to Kenneth Grahame.)

you can do it without sill plates too - just glue it to the floor, underneath any carpet/rubber flooring you may have. It will stay if you are liberal with the adhesive and use something to hold the seal in place while it dries.
