So after a couple of times of the truck continuing to run for a couple seconds after I turned the key off, now it continues to run until i kill it by dropping the clutch. The radio also stays on, so I'm assuming there's a bad connection in the run position inside the ignition. Just looking to see if anyone had any other thoughts before I ordered a new one.
Thanks
Think i need a new ignition

That's what I'd do. Cheap and easy swap. Be gentle removing the plug. They tend to get brittle with heat and age.

The timing, or the carburetor not closing all the way can cause it to diesel when you shut it off.

That's what I thought at first when it only ran for a few seconds. But now it will run until I kill it and with the radio staying on desieling doesn't seem likely. Thanks for your help, guess I'll order an ignition.

I had same issue . But I could unplug switch and still stay running !!!!! I found if I bumped starter then turned key off truck would die ... Replaced starter relay so far it appears to fix the issue .

Re: Think i need a new ignition
Ignition switch.
I had the same problem on a fairlane and ignition switches at time were not available. So i spliced in a generic horn button between the hot 'starter' wire off the switch. And turned it into a push start
With the key in Of course.
Problem solved.
