wiper delay question

Post by brrrdman »

I am adding a wiper delay to a 68 F 250. In looking at the wiring tutorial on this site, I am told to move the black/wht wire over to the lime green wire on the truck harness in order to power a washer pump. That black wire goes to an orange wire now and I can't seem to figure out what that orange wire is for....has anyone out there went thru this procedure ? Thx.

I have a wiper delay from a 78 that I am going to install in my 68 CS. I will be following with interest. Someone will chime in that has done it. You may, if u haven't already, scroll down to the wiring schemates in the Elec/Interior section It shows what the wire colors and where they go it should help you out.
May your sails stay full, and your knots not slip. Unless a slip knot.

The orange wire is the HOT accessory wire from the ignition switch. It should mate up with a red wire on the governor module. Post some pictures of what you're working with, so we know were giving good advice.

Here's a diagram of the '68 wipers. This should represent what your trucks harness looks like.

Here's a diagram of the '79 switch. This will represent the governors wiring. NOTE: The orientation of the plug on this diagram is rotated 180 degrees from the '68 diagrams. The top of the '79 connector is the bottom of the '68 connector.

Mancar, your '78 wiper delay requires no modification to the wiring and will plug right in.

Here is the Fordification walkthrough that I used when I installed mine... Worked perfectly: http://www.fordification.com/tech/wiperdelay.htm

Thanks for the replies..... I am not really sure what year the delay came from..... the orange wire mates to a black/ wht. The wiper and delay work fine....no washer yet.... I need to get one from the wrecking yard..... I may just power it with a separate switch.

If you read at the bottom of the upgrade instructions, the black/white wire on the delay unit needs to be moved to mate up with the lime green wire from the harness on 80-86 switches, which it sounds like you have. I don't believe the orange wire gets used in the upgrade. Try moving the black/white to the lime green and see if that gives you the washer, it should.
