Heater ain't hot.

Post by Cornhusker »

I started this topic in the interior board but I'm thinking this might be where it needs to be. Anyway, I recently bought a '67 F100. Heater isn't blowing even warm air. I am confident I am working the controls correctly and I changed the fuse under the dash. Still nothing. I was told by someone it may be the thermostat. I have looked and looked but cannot figure out where it is. Any help would be much appreciated.

The heater is run by engine heat. A rubber coolant line is run from the water pump, through the heater core, then back out to the intake manifold. So first, is air moving, but cold, or is no air moving at all from the vents? If air is coming out the vents your problem lies in the rubber hoses. If not, the problem is the blower motor. Start at the passenger fender wall. There should be a valve attached to it with a cable, and heater hoses running to it. Remove the hoses on the valve. If it's clogged up with gunk replace the valve, and all the heater hoses. Inside the cab move the temperature control all the way hot, then all the way cold. Check the cable position on the valve. If it doesn't move you need to replace the valve. It's Motorcraft part number YG133. If the valve moves freely, and your heater hoses are clean your next culprit is likely the heater core. Here is a link on how to remove the heater core. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =6&t=44760 If the valve is on the return side of the heater core; the heater core is probably full of gunk too, and needs to be replaced or cleaned. Also check any other connections these hoses have. There is a nipple on the water pump, and another on the intake manifold. There might also be a carb spacer with lines running through it. All of these are good places to check for dirt. Replace or clean them if they are full of gunk.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out. I know what I'm doing this weekend. Much appreciated!

If you go through all of the above and end up taking the heater core out, Bronco Graveyard sells all of the soft parts (foam and rubber) to put it all back together again.

Well I have a heater in my garage. Don't think that qualifies as a heated garage!
