1967 f250 mod - 460 with zf5 swap

Post by Aesop »

I have my bed and rear frame nearly done except for bodywork and paint.

I bought a 86 f250 4x4 that I am going to rob the zf5 and transfer case for this swap. I am nearly done with my 460 externally balanced rebuild. The clutch master looks easy enough to fab in, and I will butcher my towers like this.....

I want to know if there are any cab issues, or if one of you guys have done this before. The search function has never worked on this site so don't scold me.

I guess I will set the engine, tranny, and transfer case with headers installed to ensure clearance, then shave the original towers. I think if I set the intake carb base at zero or maybe +1 or 2 in order to account for weight gain I should be all right. The front end is removed right now. My only real concern is cab interference and fan to radiator clearance.

This is apples to oranges so its probably not even worth bringing up.

When i put my 4BT / zf5 / 205 combo into mine i had no issue with the cab. However i alligned the engine/transmission combo and then built the motor mounts. Where as you are probably going to use the original motor mounts.

I know I will need to lower the towers and using the late 80's motor mounts is an excellent and cheap mod, and you are right, since I am not injected the carb base needs to be at zero. That really limits my drivetrain centerline and my vertical is going to be limited by the headers. I know I will make this work. My 460 will only be around 425+HP so I shouldn't need any reinforcing up front. If you can cram a Cummings in there with no cab issues then I shouldn't have any problems either. Thanks for the heads up, that makes me feel better.
