110v A/C outlet under hood

I've searched and searched all over the web and in the forums here but to no avail. So, my 1972 parts F100 has one under the hood. I've read in different places that this was part of a factory package that one could add. However, I don't know how much of the truck is original. From decoding the VIN, I've determined that only the paint is accurate. The truck has a 240 i6, a 3 on tree tranny, 2WD, and only a half ton. According to the VIN, its a 360ci, c6 AUTO, 2WD F250 3/4ton. So I got lost and confused from there. Luckily, so far, the rearend, carburetor, and distributor have tags on them still, so I can identify those.

What I'm looking for, is info of the outlet. Curious of the specs on it. Everything about it is in great shape, the outlet in the box is still shiny with minimal marring, telling me very little usage. Depending on the specs, I'm interested on swapping it over to my work truck. Sometimes we get caught out in middle of nowhere and an outlet would come in extremely handy...

Anybody have info or specs about them? I'll try getting a pic or two of it up here tomorrow.

sounds like somebody added that. maybe its wired for 12v dc to run a 12v light or 12v appliaces? there was a underhood generator option but the plug would be on the generator. sounds like maybe you had a cab swap or a door swap at some point in your trucks past. ( the drivers door has the VIN tag on it.

Go here to identify what your vin really is. Post some pics of the outlet. If it's 110V there should be an inverter somewhere. It looks like a stereo amp.

I vaguely remember a some people making mods in the 70's to their charging systems to would allow them to run a drill or saw from the alternator. Most drills and saws would run off of DC but the regulator would have to be bypassed to get the output voltage high enough. I think these setups were unpredictable and usually trashed the alternator. Does anyone remember this?

It's actually not stored here at home, but as soon as I make it back out,I'll get pics of it. It's got a on/off switch outside of it, and wired directly to battery with a buch of faded stickers, I don't know . And the front clip and cab are all matching, and then the bed. So maybe a whole front clip and cab swap? $300, perfect interior, doors, cab, inner fenders, aluminum canopy AND a ladder rack, I wasn't complaining Most of those parts just made the truck pay for itself. The only parts of the drivetrain I might possibly be interested in is the tranny. I want to find a tag on it and decipher it... Maybe that 3 on tree and a beefy FE block could make a fun weekend driver. Otherwise, I'm more at a loss on what to do with rest of truck. If anyone is in the WYO area and wants parts, let me know... I might have what you need available

Hopefully I'll make it out to the truck tomorrow before it snows. I've got a battery drain to track down tonight. Got my backup light wiring between tranny and firewall replaced, and added a new grant steering wheel. Now I can see when backing up at night, and honk my horns. But I have to jump the truck 2-3 times a day now. So back to the garage I go... I'm pretty positive its either in the horn relay or the steering column. I added a replacement wire to tranny like I'd said, and that circuit works and checks out to be free of grounding... All I did for horn is add the new wheel, and get dead batteries must be the tires

I had to go out to truck today, pull wiring. I have an insane drain in my electrical system that I'm having a very difficult time locating, but that's another story. ANYWAYS! Pics of outlet box...

First of all, here's how it was wired (the installer hacked into the wire harness I was seeking, rendering it useless to me, jerks).

Red to bat+ of starter relay
Blk to bat+ (red) of alt
Blu to field (hacked into wiring)
Grn to ground
Wht-1 to stator (blk) of alt
Wht-2 to stator (also hacked into wiring)

From what I can make out, the back side says:

The box is made of aluminum, and DIRTY!!! It'll take some cleaning and polishing, just afraid to knock the paint off if its worth any nostalgic value...

This link has some good info on what you have. It was meant to power 120VAC devices back in the day. I wouldn't use it today without going through it and replacing most of the electronics inside.

Good stiff indeed! I think I must check the amperage on the alternator it was installed with. Me personally, I'm a lil too sketchy to try tinkering with it any time soon, I'm having enough electrical issues. Mayne down the road, like this next summer. But I'm through with snowy time electrical. Yesterday morning, as my electrical fried, we got nearly 7" of snow dumped on us, and the forecast only called for 2-4". Ha! I live in WY, the weather is too unpredictable. But thanks mrollings53! That was all the info I wanted
