Fuel gauge wiring

Post by zatesta »

First time posting. i have a 1967 f250 camper special with duel tanks and have been troubleshooting the fuel gauge not working for the in cab tank. It goes past full when grounded. The sending unit is good.I have the voltage coming from the IPVR. When i hook a jumper from the sending unit to the post marked "orange" i get a fuel reading. I also don't have any continuity from the sending unit to the orange wire behind the panel. When i look at the master wiring diagram wire 286 (orange) and wire 30D (BLK-GRN) are put onto the gauge differently than stamped on the back of the panel. When everything is hooked up the gauge reads empty. My question is where should continuity be with wire 286 behind the dash?

Try using this diagram. Looks like it goes to the switch. The other diagram conflicts with this one. There are several known/suspected errors in these diagrams, so use them with some skepticism.

Not sure what i did but was playing with it over the weekend and got the gauge to work for the in cab tank after switching the tank selector (by the seat) and gauge switches back and forth a couple times. i think the aux tank is empty so ill have to put some fuel in and see if it work. maybe from sitting for quite some time the switch was dirty internally and finally cleared up.
