turn signal switch wiring modification?

Post by wick22 »

my truck is a 1965 and i followed the p/s conv in tech section which was very informative
truck drives and steers wonderful

i used a 1976 3 speed p/s column

can i put 1965 turn signal switch in 1976 column?

or do i need to start cutting and splicing?

You shouldn't have to cut or splice anything. De pin the connectors on the old and new columns. There is a spring clip on the pins that you depress, then push the pin out the back of the connector. Identify which wire does what on the new column, and where the equivalent is located on the original dash turn signal connector. Insert the pins from the new column into the connector you removed from the old column in the positions that match the dash connector. Plug the re-pinned connector back up to the dash, and verify that everything works correctly.

Because the part numbers are different, I'd say no. It also looks like the emergency flasher is wired in with the '79 turn signal switch.

Here are diagrams for a '66 truck and '76 truck. The '66 should be similar to your '65.

i think the wiring diagrams will help

im not worried about having hazard switch...so im hoping 65 switch will bolt up to 76 column

i knew part numbers would be different because of the 11 year part difference and the newer switch having hazards

im wondering if itll bolt up and if it will itll work fine

2maro im gonna pull steering wheel off both columns and look to see if they will swap
