Turn Signal Not flashing
I have a 1971 f250 camper special. My turn signals work but do not blink, instead they just stay on. My emergency flashers work fine. Has anyone ever fixed this problem before? what parts do I need, is it a difficult fix can someone walk me through it. Any help would be awesome thanks everybody.

Re: Turn Signal Not flashing
Sounds like you just need a new flasher. There are 2 flashers in our trucks. One for the emergency flashers and one for the turn signals. Just to make sure it is a bad flasher, just swap the 2 flashers and see if the blinkers work and the emergency ones don't. If that is what happens, then all you need is a new flasher for a few bucks which you can pick up at any auto parts store. Just replace the flasher that doesn't blink. Both of the flashers are in the wiring behind the gauge cluster. You can either remove the gauge cluster for easy access to both flashers, or you can just look up underneath the dash from the drivers side and you should see both of them and get to them from there. I would remove the gauge cluster just to make things easy.

I had a similar issue, I resolved it by cleaning my fuse panel contacts.

Re: Turn Signal Not flashing
I had the exact same symptom once on my 69 F250 4x4 and it was the flasher unit for the turn signals. As calfdemon said earlier, these trucks have two flasher units - one for the turn signals and one for the 4-way flashers. To see which flasher unit is which, put the 4-way flashers on and feel each of the flasher units to see which one is working. You need to replace the unit that is not being used by the 4-way flashers (the turn signal flasher unit).

It was the flashers. And I figured out a quick fix as well. Because those old flashers are simply capacitors with different rates of charge release, you can actually just switch them and that will make both work. Kinda a cool trick.

Re: Turn Signal Not flashing
I thought the old flashers were made with a bimetallic strips that would bend when heated because of the different thermal expansion of the 2 different metals. With current flowing through it they would heat up and open the contact and close when it cooled back down. This makes the "click" sound.
