horn works off and on

Put a 72 column in my 68 CS. I am using the 68 steering wheel. Got it ground down to wheel retaining nut so the 68 horn ring would fit on. Get all back together and the horn works. Drive the truck the next morning and horn doesn't work. took wheel off and got the horn working. Next day horn doesn't work. went through this a few times, sooner or later I will find the glitch in the widget whatchamacallit.

The PO put a 71 steering wheel and column in my 70 F350. The horn didn't work. I bought a whatchumacllit thingie as many said the little copper wire breaks. I rented a wheel puller but could not get the wheel off..?.

So I put a plastic horn button on the steering columns and hooked that up to the horn relay and I now have a reliable horn....

Thanks for the reply abe. Ya it is the contact acting up on my horn. I am going to mess with it when I get over this darn crud that has set in. Don't give up on that wheel they can be stubborn, but they will come off.

I had to pull my steering wheel 3 times on my 85. I either finally got it right or it got tired of me beating my head against the dash.
Man, I hate anything to do with the inside of a steering column.
