i apologize for not joining a forum relavent to this truck but here goes. i'm working on a 1987 f150. I've been to pull-a-part once now to try to find a bench seat to replace the torn up one in this truck. i should have brought a tape measure. all i had with me was a half inch socket and a half inch drive. that was a mistake. i pulled a nice split bench out of a 94 ranger and i should have known that the seats weren't going to be wide enough for a 87 after dragging the pair to a wrecked 89 and test fitting them. I did find a perfect hood though so it wasn't a total wasted effort. today i'm taking all my tools to the yard. hopefully i will find something suitable. i found one of these yesterday while searching https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sit ... Q&imgdii=_ unfortunately these don't have true headrests as i found out after sitting in it. i'm searching for a bench that has headrests due to safety reasons so the new owners don't smash their heads on the backglass in a collision. making custom seat brackets from scratch is not an option. does anyone have any suggestions on what vehicles i should be looking at to swap a bench seat that has headrests into the truck? i may have found a solution by the time someone responds but i would really appreciate any advice. thank you
i ended up finding a very nice 40/20/40 split bench out of a dodge 1998 1500 4x4. i'm almost done designing the bracket that has to be fabricated. using the original brackets from the original bench to support this thing so my adapter needs to interface the new bench and the old bench sliding brackets. my friend wanted me to patch the 98 dodge floor pans into the 87 f150 to use the original dodge brackets but i don't think that would work very well...
Sounds like a good plan! I, and others I'm sure, would be interested in what you come up with.

ive been overwelmed with my new job but have got some work done on this project. just got the center console mounted on a plate that i had fabbed together. mounting the outside seats today. promise to post pics of this custom install when i'm finished. wired up the stereo and cb radio and have just been preoccupied with all kinds of other stuff. i have alot of a great ideas while taking on this custom install on how to do the bench seat in my truck. ordered a center console with 3 cup holders out of a dodge to go in my f100. tracking down two bucket seats. as all of you are well aware of, too many projects and work can make you too busy.
i finished the bench seat. my friend did all the welding and i did all the design and drilling. it's a thick bracket with 2 different faces, 1 on top, 1 on bottom, and interfaces original bench seat sliding track. it's heavy but sturdy and functional. it sits higher than the original seat. it also has space underneath to fit a few 8 inch subwoofers later. the extra space can also be used for storage. i don't own a camera right now. i did this for a friend and he is going to try to take pictures this weekend so i hope to have some pics uploaded for yall at the beginning of this next week. the seats cost $50 and the steel and man hours for welding cost another $125 so $175 plus my hourly which i only charged $10 so he got a great deal.
