Coils are burning.
Ok so I was having an issue with a weak spark. I have had a points eliminator kit in it for a while. I changed the coil and it fired right up. 3-4 Days later and I'm back to a weak spark. Any ideas?

Re: Coils are burning.
Excessive plug gap, lean mixture, high resistance in the secondary ignition.
Is the coil supposed to have full battery voltage or run through a resistor?

Re: Coils are burning.
you are posting this, and you are posting that your battery is draining.
my guess the coil is getting power all the time, broken ignition switch or short somewhere, causing it to drain down the battery and fry the coil. check power at the coil with the truck turned off.

Re: Coils are burning.
Still having problems with the no spark problem. I had a Ignitor II kit laying around so I put that in today. I am still not sure what is causing this problem but the coil test fine. I'm hopeing that the Accel points eleminator I installed like 5 years ago was the problem. Eveything else seems to work fine. 12v to the coil with the key on, nothing with the key off, and the coil has over 1.5 ohms across the terminals. All grounds check out fine.

Re: Coils are burning.
So since the problem only shows when it has been sitting for a while I couldn't test it yesterday after I replaced the points eliminator kit. This morning when I fired it up it ran fine for atleast 20 mins before I turned it off so it may have fixed the problem. I will try again later tonight before I risk taking to school in the morning. I can't afford the tow bill right now . Would you say 5 years on a points eliminator kit sounds right?

All fixed Turns out it was a bad ignition module. Replaced the points eleminator and no more problem Now the brakes are acting up ... but thats a story for another category
