1969 F-100 F-Block 360 Lost power, stutters, etc.

Post by mjferg63 »

Last night after helping a friend move a mattress, my '69 F-100 started sputtering and losing power. I would push the accelerator all the way to the floor and the engine would race then completely lose power. It would crank again, but then repete. This progressed over the next 2 miles and 20 minutes until I could barely limp off the road and left it in a parking lot over night. It's getting plenty of gas and the entire fuel supply side has been replaced over the course of the last two years. Before it totally died it detonated s few of the largest back fires I've ever had...I thought I hit an IED:-) I'm pretty sure it's an ignition problem...how can I tell if it's the timning chain or purely electrical/distributor?

Most likely bedbugs :D

Sorry... Couldn't resist. What engine is in your truck? I don't have an answer for you but some of these other smart gentlemen may be of more help.

Edit- somehow missed the title of your post. Oops

It was the points...the F-Block is really a 390...gap was .17 (360 gap) and should have been .21(390). Replaced points and condenser and she runs like a top.
