Fuel Gauge and Sending Unit...not registering full

Post by KRob »

I have a 71 F250 4x4. The in-cab tank came out of another bump vintage truck...i don't know what. The Fuel gauge sending unit came with the "new" tank. The "new" tank i had to drill mounting holes in it to mount it. When i have it all hooked up and lift the sending units float all the way to imitate full it only moves the fuel gauge to about half.

Ideas?

I am betting there are two different style sending units but i don't know.

Thanks

Did a quick check this morning and grounded out the orange wire to the ground, guess what fuel gauge went all the way to full.

I will try to pull apart latter on today, to see if i can adjust it at all.

Otherwise my local parts house doesnt have them so i guess its off to LMC or Dennis Carpenter.

LMC is about 50 plus shipping....ouch.
