Carpet / Flooring Alternatives

Post by marvin2 »

The carpet in my F250 is shot...beyond just throwing floor mats over it. Has anyone tried (with success) a DIY carpet or flooring for our trucks? I can't seem to find a carpet for vinyl floor for anything less than $175 plus shipping. That's just a little more than I am looking to spend at the moment.

I do not want to tear the carpet out and do a bed liner right to the floor boards; not that I don't like the look, just wanting to do something a little bit more finished off.

Thanks guys

dont, know about the price situation but I did installe the rubber floor in my f250. let it set out in the sun and had to cut to fit. not insanely bad. I would think molded carpet kit would be really easy to do.....

if you have carpet in there right now just take it out and use it as a template to cut it out of some new stuff.

any indoor/outdoor type carpet works well. you should be able to get a remnant from a carpet store for less than $50

When I was doing my '70 model...17yrs ago, I bought cheap black auto carpet roll(s) from Autozone, used for speaker boxes normally, and used Liquid Nail to glue it down to the floor. Cutting and folding creases and curves in the floor and hump as needed, but a hair drier or heat gun can be used carefully to mold also. I was young and had no money, so I did it the best way I could, and it came out looking nice. Using a better grade carpet and better quality glue should look even better and last quite a while if you keep it clean. It really wasn't that hard to do. I bought molded carpet for my crew though, and it doesn't fit all that much better.

Do you have any photos and does it seem like decent carpet? This is a bit closer to my budget for sure.

I will try to get some this weekend. it fit well everywhere except the front of the hump, but that is because Im running it up the firewall (it wasnt intended to go that far). I am going to work on fitting it better in a couple weeks.

Stock interiors was easy to deal with, I read that someone on here had ordered it untrimmed so I asked about that. Turns out they dont mind if you have some preferences... I ordered mine untrimmed and without the heel pad. they will also send you samples of the colors and different types of carpet. I trimmed about 6" off each side and the back, I probably would have cut 8" or so from the front if I were going to use a firewall pad.

I looked around and found that they sold them on Ebay for less than their website, also found their websites shipping calculator to be "off". It would cost more for shipping to buy an extra yard with the carpet than to make 2 orders. I talked to a lady there and mentioned some of this, she had no problem making sure I got a good deal.

I will second the recommendation for the form fitted carpet from Stock Interiors. I have bought the carpet for 2 trucks now (installed in one so far) and it went smoothly and looks great.

I know there are many other members here that also have bought their carpet from them. You cannot beat it for the price.

Thanks for all the input guys. I just ordered samples from Stock Interiors, we'll see what color I want when they get here.

Rich, I think you've told me before but I can't remember for sure, did you buy a '73 carpet set for your Crew Cab? I don't see a '70 listed on stockinteriors website.

No, what I did was buy the 67-72 carpet kit without an in cab tank (for the extra length at the back for cutting purposes) and then ordered 3 additional feet of carpet and jute since the cab is 3 feet longer than the standard cab. The rear portion is mostly flat for the most part and the width of their extra carpet is a few inches longer than the width of our cabs. So, I should have more than enough carpet to cover the entire cab and will just cut the sides of the back portion to fit. My only thoughts are that I might have wanted to ordered 4 extra feet of carpet only so that I could have the seam where the 2 sets line up underneath the front bench. I am hoping that with the extra carpet for the non-tank kit, that it will go past the foot area for the back seat. I don't want the seam to show. I guess I will know once I get my truck back and start putting it all together.

Rich, you know you can buy a crewcab specific kit that does go back to the back wall and down in the rear steps? I've purchased 2 so far. From Auto custom carpets. Fit was good on their kits.

No, I was unaware that anyone made kits for the 67-72 crew cabs. The only kits I have seen for the crews are 73+. I just went to the ACC website and I only see options for regular cabs in the 67-72 era. Can you post a link to where you found the Crew cab options? :hmm:

BTW, Stock Interiors also sells ACC carpet as do many other retailers. But I have yet to see a Bump era crew cab kit at any of them, and I looked for quite a while. I would love to be able to order one rather than create one, but then again, I already bought the carpet and it has been up in my rafters for over a year, so I am pretty much stuck with it. But I still would like to see the crew cab kit in case my plan doesn't work out they way I imagine it.

I think the last one I ordered came from Jeffs bronco grave yard, and yes they do get listed in a 73+. They share the same floor pan. I'd say give acc a call and talk to a real person, that's what I did on my first kit to b sure I was getting what I wanted. I may sell my black kit currently on my truck but it has a few cuts here that could be stitch back together and there is a hole for my 4x4 shifter.

If I get a chance later ill c if I can dig up a receipt
