Philco was purchased by Ford in 1961 so they are basically one and the same.

I read an article about the sale of phico as well. I guess I am wondering why they still kept the name philco on some radios and ford on others. It seems like one 70 f250 could have a philco and the other 70 f250 could have a ford radio. It just seems odd. There must be something that I am missing here... it's happened before!

I've found three different radio chassis on our trucks. 67, 68/9 and 70-72. They do all have bulbs, usually an 1891, I think. The bulb mounting varied depending on which 'generation' the chassis was. I'll see if I can find my pics.

68-71 are the same (8-ohm speaker), and in 72 they changed to a 3.2-ohm setup.

Good to know that about the internal wiring but there still are differences in the radio housings.
Here's the 70-72 style...

The bulb socket clip is under the black tape on top. The 68/69 is slightly different.

Good thread here. I was wondering if my radio had a light because it was dark and you guys answered that for me.

My '67 radio isn't working at all so as I take it apart I'll take some pics of the inside and the bulb location.

Helpful thread. Been working on this problem for a week now;) Been driving my 69 so long that when the under dash AM-FM-Cassette player quit, i was old enough that all i ever listen to anymore is AM radio anyway;) Might as well make the light work too;)

OK, one more question. I now have a working ebay radio with a new bulb, but have not yet gotten the old radio out. Holdup appears to be the factory under dash AC. Someone please tell me there is a way to do it without removing it? It would come out through the instrument panel hole, IF not for the radio brace, which cannot be removed with the AC installed.

Thats what i was afraid of;) Hate to drop the AC, as i have the AC and heat both working now. Wish my radio had quit 6 months ago when i had the AC dropped;)

AC also keeps it from coming out the glove box. I MIGHT be able to bend the rear radio bracket and get it out through the instrument panel, but don't want to go that route.

Anyone try LED bulbs for the dash and radio?
