stereo main power

they are wired for a switched power from the factory. But where do you guys pull a wire from to get constant power for and aftermarket stereo? So far i have mine coming off the batter but My truck is 100% unmolested as far as wiring goes and it looks corny.

On my truck, a camper special, there are a couple circuit breakers on the passenger side just under the dash and in front of the doors above the fresh air intake. One side of the circuit breaker goes straight to positive on the battery. There was a #10 threaded post on the breaker which I was able to place a ring terminal on with a wire over to the radio. Really clean.

I think the breakers are for the camper special marker lights. They may not be on every truck.

My stereo main power is off of the cigarette lighter power. That was a convenient place to take it from, and since I never use the cigarette lighter, it has enough current capacity for the stereo (no separate amp; I have no idea how much power that would require).

You shouldn't need more than a couple watts of power. All that wire is doing is keeping the clock set and any radio presets alive.

and the cigarette lighter is the thing closest to the drivers door correct. always wondered what that was... does anyone reproduce the lighter part of that?

My lighter was the one to the far right of the steering column.

On my 72 the lighter is right next to the ashtray...see photos below. YMMV.
