Adding interior lights
I want to add a couple lights to the interior of my 67 under the dash. I have some of it figured out already, and added 2 led lights to the stock location, and 2 led lights in the headliner.
My problem is finding where to tap in for lights under the dash? I want all of them to be powered by the headlight switch, the same as they are from the factory.
Here is a picture of the lights I have been using. This is 2 of them in the stock interior light location, I'm still working on the cover for them. The original cover was cracked, and so yellow it barely let light though.

I'm not sure about the earlier wiring, but both my '71 and '72 have a female bullet connector that is connected to the dash-light circuit. It's used for the optional cigar lighter light, you might have one hanging back there to the right of the steering column.

Re: Adding interior lights
I don't have the answer, but I believe he means he wants the same circuit from the headlight switch as the original overhead dome light is on. My '67 is the same; only turned on from the headlight switch and no door light switches.

^Yepper, no door activated interior lights on mine. Trying to figure out which pin on the head light switch turns on the dome light rather than hooking them up to a switch.guhfluh wrote:I don't have the answer, but I believe he means he wants the same circuit from the headlight switch as the original overhead dome light is on. Re: Adding interior lights
Looks to me like you will want the black wire with blue stripe...53A looks unused/available, but 53E, 53B or 53D should do as well.
This is where mine is on my 72 switch...ymmv!

Re: Adding interior lights
In looking at my advice again, you do not want to use 53A as shown in the drawing provided , as I believe that will be hot all the time with the headlight switch on. I am not sure the drawing is correct, 53A should not tie in to 54 "imo", but who knows what happened in 67? I think you want your "added" lights to come on with your dome lights. As long as you use any other 53 wire, black w/blue stripe, you should be fine. Sorry for any confusion...

Re: Adding interior lights
Okay, third and final answer. After much head scratching, the drawing I posted in my first reply is not the correct one for your series. This should be the correct one. Just find the black wire (53) coming from the headlamp switch (it should be the only black one) and splice in for all your interior lighting needs... Although you might want to consider adding a relay to handle the current.

Re: Adding interior lights
Strange difference between the two drawings.
Adding extra lights for either seems easy enough, but adding door switches to a truck that didn't have any, like mine, looks a little tricky. Not bad, but just a little more involved.
*Edit* It looks like the first drawing with the courtesy lamp switches has a mistake. The bullet connectors B and C should be reversed. With the way it shows, power from the ignition switch, through the fuse would power the dome light constantly with the splice at the back of the light switch of 54 and 54a. The door switches *should* get constant power, but switch the power to the dome lamp.

Yeah, that was my thought as well. Something screwy about it. It is the only year that shows it that way.guhfluh wrote:Strange difference between the two drawings.

Re: Adding interior lights
So far I have added the two strips in the factory light housing, and three across the roof.
One above the driver, one above the center, and one above the passenger. I have them set up so they don't just shine down on the top of your head, and actually give off usable light.
I ended up piggybacking them off of the factory interior light plug. Running the wiring was the only pain, but that was my own fault due to only having red wire here at the time.
I just started adding the same strips with red leds under the dash to give the floor a glow. They are going to be powered off of a toggle in the dash.
