Why the resister wire

Post by 69Ford »

Why the resister wire and why running off the starter solenoid a full 12V running
to coil when the key is in the start position the brown wire. I'm new to this. Thanks for all the replies to previous posts

One of the electrical/ignition gurus can explain the technical stuff but, as I understand it, when you turn the key to start it sends a full 12v to the starter and when you release it to the "run" position it reroutes the current thru the resistor wire to drop the voltage down to around 9 volts so you don't fry your points. Swapping to electronic ignition negates the need for the voltage drop so you can run a full 12v all the time. Something like that anyway. :hmm:
