i think i have a heater problem?

Post by hedz »

i replaced my heater control valve recently. i then plugged all the holes i knew of in my firewall. i know none of the holes i plugged are leaking heat from the engine compartment. i scanned the firewall trying to find a hole that might be the source of this heat that is very lightly blowing from the center area right beneath the dash. i couldn't find any holes that would be pushing this heat.

could it be that when i replaced the heater control valve that i got my cables mixed up and hooked them up backwards? could one of my cables be broken? snapped in two maybe? they were extremely rusty when i went in their for the heater control valve repair. is something shorted out like maybe the heater fan and it might be stuck on? maybe a bad heater fan? i hear something but i don't know if it's the fan. i can turn on my heater and can control the speed of the fan at my control panel. the off to low to high seems to be working...

any suggestions would be appreciated.

just trying to get the temps in my cab under control, it's hot in there this summer

can you bypass the heater by just fitting the heater hoses together? I do it on my 70 so I don't get an extra heat in the AC box. See if that helps because no matter what, a heater valve will let some water by at all times.

doesn't seem to blow heat until my truck is driving. what does this mean? i plugged up everything in the firewall...

it literally blows heat with air when the truck is in motion from the heater vents.

is something stuck open that's not supposed to be?

The valve should move freely by hand, make sure it closes completely, use the cable clamp to adjust.
If the valve is closing completely and there's still heat in the heater box, the valve might need to go onto the other of the 2 heater-hoses. Switch the 2 hoses at the engine.
