brake lights

Post by Phoenix68 »

I have a 68 F250 Ranger Camper Special and have replace turn signal switch. Running lights and turn signals work, but I am not getting brake lights. Emergency Flasher switch is not hooked up as switch is broken. Could this be causing my brake lights to not work. Brake lights switch works as well. Have not torn into the dash yet would like to know where to start.
Any ideas are welcome.

The dash probably will not yield any answers as it has lamps only attached to turn signals. Removing the dash which is simple would help to see what you are working on.

The emergency flashers may have a short causing an issue.

Did you have brake lights before changing the switch?

If so, I would start by checking the switch terminal wiring to be sure it is correct.

Thanks, will dig into it again tonight and see what happens. Have a emergency switch that I picked up today, also bought a new brakelight switch today and will see if that helps. The brake lights did work before I switched out the turn signal, but something might have come loose behind dash when we redid the interior. I will post some shots of the redone interior soon.

Fixed it with my sons help. The fuse was good, but was not making good contact. Started there and had to clean up the fuse holder to make it work. Once that was done put in new brake switch and all worked well. So my thinking was way off with emergency switch causing problems. Will rewire that soon so they work.

Next step is tuneup, emissions and registration and it will be all set for him to drive. We have spent the last 13 months working on it together. He is 17 and he bought this truck when he turned 16.
